Lists - Organization List Import Error

UTF-8 error when trying to import an Org List CSV. 

Question

When trying to import an Org. List I get the error

Error importing organization list: source sequence is illegal/malformed utf-8

Resolution:

That can occur because of particular characters in the csv file such as 'control' or non-English characters.

They might have come from the software that you used to export/create the CSV file.

If your CSV file contains unwanted strange (or ‘control’) characters, then:

• Edit the CSV to find strange/control characters to either remove or replace them.
  Tip: If there are many such characters then use Find-and-Replace functionality in an editor like Notepad or Sublime Text. A shortcut to do that in those editors is to press CTRL+H

If your CSV file contains unusual characters that you want to keep, such as non-English characters, then:

Open the CSV file in a text editing tool such as Sublime Text and use the menu option:
File > Save with Encoding > UTF-8 to fix the file, and then try importing again.
